Celebrating Bidiversity in Pictures

October 13, 2011 10:35 AM

This week, Catherine Bearder MEP brought the UK's largest nature photography symposium 'The Wildlife Photographer of the Year', organised by The Natural History Museum together with the BBC Wildlife Magazine, to the European Parliament.

Wildlife Photo EventThis world-renowned yearly exhibition provides a spotlight on the rarely seen wonders of the natural world.

Now in its 46th year, the Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition is an international showcase for the very best in nature photography. Each year tens of thousands of entries are received and judged by a specially selected expert panel.

Being accepted into this competition is something that wildlife photographers, worldwide, aspire to. Professionals win many of the prizes, but amateurs have also met with considerable success over the years. Above all the exhibition highlights the beauty and diversity of our natural environment and shines a spotlight on the need to protect this through the combined efforts of government and civil society.

The exhibition will run in the European Parliament from 10-14 October and was launched last night.

Catherine was joined by a number of speakers who are leaders in the field of conservation and conservation policy.

After the event Catherine commented:

"As well as being able to look at the most beautiful photography this has been a great occasion for MEPs and NGOs to meet with each other and to show their commitment to the conservation of the environment."
